Act soon if you want to join practising pharmacist register

RPSGB will cease to be the pharmacy regulator in a few weeks. Anyone who is off the register or on the non-practising register and wants to return to the practising register should think carefully and quickly about whether they want to to so. The procedures will be more complex as soon as the General Pharmaceutical Council takes control and costs are set to be higher. However, the timing of when you want to join the practicing register will be a factor.

Remember too that you won't be able to call yourself a 'pharmacist' is you don't register although you will be an MRPharmS so long as you stay a member of the 'new' RPSGB.

NAWP Annual Conference

The Annual Conference was held on 16th - 18th April.

The theme was 'Vision for the Future', which reflects the practice content on 'Eyes', as well as coverage of the regulatory and professional changes facing the profession.

Members will get a full report in a future edition of the Newsletter

National Board elections

These have now been completed so that England, Scotland and Wales have elected boards. Eventually the boards will nominate representatives for a new Assembly that will coordinate affairs across the UK.

There are a good number of board members who are sympathetic to NAWP's aspiration and/or are members. NAWP looks forward to cooperating with the boards in a variety of ways.

NAWP keeps fees low

A note to remind people of the new NAWP fees for 2009, and that all pharmacists and former pharmacists and pharmacy graduates are eligible for membership.

Members working full time: £30

Members working part-time (no more than equivalent of 13 weeks F/T) £20

Retired pharmacists £10

Students and then the first three years post registration £10

Nawp now has a Facebook page. It is named Nawp Quick.

Hopefully pharmacists who are not sure they want to join us, will be happy to make contact and share information.

NAWP has been committed to helping returners for many years. Currently we do so via several methods of low-level support, but we can now also introduce returners to sympathetic employers and a helpful employment agency operating across the UK who can offer flexible work opportunities.
